The Yiddish Rialto
From the 1890’s to the 1940’s - huge starts of the Yiddish Theater
Service Description
Molly Picon, Boris Thomashefsky, Jacob Adler, Moishe Oysher, Menasha Skulnik. Though mostly unfamiliar today, from the 1890’s to the 1940’s all were huge stars of the Yiddish Theater and performed and played on the Yiddish Rialto. Mostly centered around Second Avenue from Houston to 14th Street, playhouses abounded featuring these stars playing in mostly original and sometimes classic plays such as Der Dybbuk, Di kishefmakherin, but also Hamlet and King Leer. Every word was in Yiddish and aimed at the millions of immigrants who were looking for entertainment and a familiar piece of the old country. Join Brad on a walk down Second Avenue and relive the Jewish Rialto through stories of the neighborhood, the actors, the restaurants, the hangouts and the theaters - some of which are still standing.
